What is first contact physiotherapy (FCP)?
- Alternative to the GP.
- First choice for patients with musculoskeletal pain (muscles and joints).
- Aim to provide early access to specialist knowledge and assessment.
- Majority of aches and pains resolve with the right advice.
- Usually one appointment.
- It is not a course of physiotherapy.
- Open to any patient registered with practice, who meet the criteria.
- FCP should be the first choice for patients requesting appointments for MSK pain.
- They do not need to speak to a doctor first.
- Patient calls up their registered surgery reception team for an appointment.
- Straight from booking or triage apps (with set criteria).
- Appointments may be mixture of phone and face to face depending on request.
