Practice Nurse

Job summary

Practice Nurses within our practice are a valuable and important part of our clinical team.

Due to retirement, we are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, experienced Practice Nurse for 24hours per week. They will have experience in Primary Care, Respiratory Chronic Disease Management and hold or working towards a non-Medical Prescribing Certificate.

It is essential that you have a flexible approach to your working hours to fit demand within the practice.

The deadline may end sooner that advertised; it is therefore important that you apply ASAP.

Main duties of the job

You will be a self-motivated, adaptable team player. Providing general Practice Nurse duties, to include provision of child and adult immunisation and vaccination programme. Both general wound dressings and compression bandaging. Minor ailments, general health screenings and chronic disease management.

Offer pathological collections including swabs, smears, and blood samples etc.

You will support the management team, with delivery of Health & Safety requirements, Infection Prevention & Control Policies, Clinical Policy & Procedures.

We are privileged to have a friendly, loyal practice team who are dedicated and passionate about delivering the best patient care. We have an onsite dispensary, Clinical team of 3 GP Partners & a Salaried GP. Nurse Prescriber who is our Diabetic Lead, Nurse Associate, HCA and Phlebotomist.

We are located in a purpose-built medical centre on a shared site with North Cotswolds Hospital, offering free car parking.

We also provide care to a neighbouring Care Home and a shared contract to care for inpatients at North Cotswolds Hospital.

Job description

Job responsibilities and duties to include:

Respiratory Chronic Disease management, Spirometry, Asthma, wound care, complex dressings, compression bandaging, removal of staples & sutures. Immunisation/ Vaccination programme both Adult & Child, Implement health promotion and wellbeing programmes, NHS patient Health checks.

Cervical Screening, Women’s Health, Request / perform pathology testing including swabs, blood samples, smears. Hypertension reviews, ECGs

Support patients with use of their prescribed medication. Monitor and ensure safe storage vaccinations & deliveries. Participate in shared learning, support junior members of the team providing guidance. Ability to record, maintain accurate clinical records. In accordance with local & national policies support safeguarding matters with the team. Assist the GPs when required. Support the team dealing with clinical emergencies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Current UK professional NMC registration with active PIN
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure.
  • Experience of working in Primary Care setting

Desirable

  • Flexibility to work outside of core hours.
  • Experience of Respiratory Chronic disease management
  • Special Interest in Women’s Health

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as a team member, committed to supporting the team.
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes.
  • Ability to work within scope of practice and understand when to refer to GPs.
  • Able to communicate & understand the needs of patients.
  • Experience of chronic disease management.
